Recipes of the Week...
"The Cooker's" Fling Tea
Make some sweet tea but melt the sugar in hot water though so it dissolves all the
way then mix together ½ part sweet tea, ¼ part already made up orange juice
and ¼ part already made up pineapple juice.
Reba's Baked Beans
Brown 2 lbs ground beef & 2 chopped onions. Drain and set aside. In a large pot
combine (to taste): canned pork and beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce,
canned corn, ketchup, mustard, steak sauce, brown sugar, molasses, salt,
pepper & garlic. Add green beans to taste but at the last minute so they don't get
mushy. Then add hamburger and onion. It’s best to cook a day in advance so the
flavors can merge together.
Daddy's Biscuits (from Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen: Recipes from
My Family to Yours by Trisha Yearwood.)
4 T vegetable shortening
2 c self-rising flour
3/4 c buttermilk, well shaken
Preheat oven to 450. Lightly spray a baking sheet.. Using a pastry blender or 2
butter knives, cut shortening into flour until it resembles coarse meal. Use a fork
to stir in buttermilk to make a soft dough, or until dough comes together and
leaves sides of bowl. Continue stirring with fork until all flour is worked into dough,
then turn onto a lightly floured board and knead 3 or 4 times. With your hands
flatten dough to a thickness of 1/2 inch & cut with a 2 1/2-inch floured biscuit
cutter. Place rounds on baking sheet 1 inch apart for crisp biscuits or almost
touching for softer biscuits. Bake 8 to 10 minutes.

What a great reminder of how important the words we speak are! I read this the
other day…I went to America some years ago with the captain of a steamer, who
was a very devoted Christian. When off the coast of Newfoundland he said to me,
"The last time I crossed here 5 weeks ago, something happened which
revolutionized my Christian life. We had George Mueller on board. I had been on
the bridge 24 hours & never left when George came to me and said, "captain, I
must be in Quebec Saturday afternoon." "It is impossible," I said. "very well, if your
ship cannot take me, God will find some other way. I have never broken an
engagement for 57 years. Let us go down into the chart-room and pray." I thought
to myself, what lunatic asylum can he have come from?" Mr. Mueller," I said, "do
you know how dense this fog is?" "No," he replied, "my eye is not on the density of
the fog, but on the living God, who controls every circumstance of my life." He
knelt down and prayed a simple prayer and when he had finished I was going to
pray; but he told me not to saying, "first, you do not believe He will answer and
second I believe He has, and there is no need for you to pray. Captain, I’ve known
my Lord for 57 years & there has never been a single day that I have failed to get
audience with the King. Get up & you will find the fog gone.” I got up & the fog was
gone & on Saturday afternoon, George Mueller was in Quebec.

Encouraging...A group of frogs were traveling through the woods when two of
them fell into a deep pit. All the other frogs gathered around the pit. When they
saw how deep the pit was they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead.
The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit with all of
their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop, saying it was hopeless.
Finally, one of the frogs listened to what the other frogs were saying and gave up.
He fell down and died. The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could.
Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop and just die. He jumped even
harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the other frogs said, "Did not you
hear us?" The frog said he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the
entire time.
